In the heart of Lecce, the M.A.M.A. Museum offers an evocative artistic journey into the romantic story of the Fiermonte family and until October 30th it will host an original artistic project: Totentanz, by master papermaker Andrea De Simeis. After the huge success of the mutimedia performance held on September 17th, which celebrated the moving story of sculptor Jacques Zwobada’s love for Antonia Fiermonte until her death at only 42, it will still be possible to admire the large music box which at the turn of a handle plays a dies irae and moves three cylinders with 18 illustrations inspired by the most famous european “danses macabres”, from the Cemetery of the Innocents in Paris to Posada’s amusing skeletons.
Printed on a starwheel press, the engravings in which “the dying meet their death” are captioned with short dialogues between the two lovers, written by renowned authors from all over Italy. Also on display at the M.A.M.A. a selection from the moving romantic correspondence between Antonia and Zwobada who, unable to accept her painful demise, devoted his art and his life to celebrating their love.
Open Monday to Friday from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
By reservation only – please call 0832 302481 ( tickets € 10, one glass of wine included).

It originated from the strong desire of the Filali siblings to revisit the places that are important to their family, in the footsteps of their grandmother Antonia and of their granduncle Enzo Fiermonte, from their native Puglia (Italy) to Paris and then to Morocco. Four unique residences which promote the idea of travel as an enriching experience, a form of virtuous cultural exchange, which in turn gives rise to a new culture of respect, listening and dialogue.
In 1994 Antonia Filali created in Marocco the Orient- Occident Foundation: a non-profit organisation aiming to ease the problems of migrants, refugees and young Moroccans and to promote employment through the institution of socio-educational and professional workshops. One of the Foundation’s goals is to protect diversity and enhance different cultures. Over the course of its highly impactful 25 years of activity, the Foundation’s President and Founder Antonia Filali has received numerous international accolades , such as the Human Rights Prize in 2008 from the French Republic, and the 2016 Social Entrepreneurship prize assigned by the prestigious Schwab Foundation and the World Economic Forum.
