September 17th, 2022 – Totentanz: love beyond death

Antique Paper workshops and the Totentanz event
at the M.A.M.A. Museum

Love and death  will be the protagonists of the performance “ Totentanz: a story of love that conquered death, Antonia Fiermonte and Jacques Zwobada”, to be held on  September 17th   in Lecce at the Antonia  Modern Art Museum. The Museum  was  dedicated by Fouad Giacomo and Antonia Yasmina Filali to the extraordinary life and work of their  maternal grandmother, dead at only 42, and of the French sculptors  René Letourneur (1898-1990) and Jacques Zwobada (1900-1967), whose lover and muse she was.

Totentanz is an artistic project by the master papermaker and engraver  Andrea de Simeis: a large music box which at the turn of a handle  plays a dies irae and moves three cylinders with 18 illustrations printed on a starwheel press and inspired by the most famous  european “danses macabres”, in which “the dying meet their death”, captioned  with short dialogues by renowned authors. For the event, a selection of the heartbreaking romantic  correspondence between Zwobada and Antonia will be printed on  paper sheets  handcrafted during two Antique Paper workshops, which the master will hold on September 15th and 16th at the M.A.M.A. Museum , n. 4  Vico dei Raynò.   On September  17th (at 6 pm and then at 8pm) Angelo Urso on double bass, Antonio Cotardo on flute, Anna Lucia Fracasso on piano, Gioele Nuzzo on didgeridoo and Laye Bamba Seck  on  percussions and voice, will  perform some variations  on the “Danse Macabre” theme.   The large Totentanz  music box will remain on display until  October 10th and the Museum can be visited  Monday to Friday  from 6:30pm  to 8pm.  For  information & bookings: La Fiermontina Family Collection, tel.  (+39) 0832302481.
